Pierre BONNARD "Table dans un jardin"
Pierre BONNARD "Table dans un jardin"
Sold : 144325€

Since 1989, the sale of December 30 (2:30 pm) is dedicated to painting and sculpture “Modern Paintings, Contemporary Art and Art of the Far East”, thus traveling various artistic currents with notably Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) who belongs to the group of Nabis, an avant-garde postimpressionist artistic movement that openly opposes the pictorial norms in force between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Considered one of the greatest colourists of the twentieth century by the richness of his palette, he also possesses a perfect mastery of light as illustrated by the «Table in a garden», oil on canvas dated 1908, signed in the lower right corner and from Ambroise Vollard and Galerie Bernheim-Jeune, Paris (sold : 144355€ - Lot 163).

World-renowned artist, Bruno Romeda (1933-2017) remains one of the undisputed masters of parallelism and geometry. Adept at simple geometric shapes, the play of shadow and light and the search for a feeling of balance in his creations, the artist favors the harmony of proportions as well as the noble material that is bronze as evidenced by the two works presented in Cannes «Le Parallélépipède», titled "Perspective cubique", bronze dated 1972 and measuring 161 cm in height (sold : 29500€ - lot 156) and «La Colonne», bronze of 1976 measuring 188 cm, (sold : 8785€ - lot 153).

Other artists and not least, Kisling and Bernard Buffet, were also represented in this sale. A worthy representative of the École de Paris, Moïse Kisling (1891-1953) is essentially known for his depictions of naked women such as this «Model», oil on canvas signed at the bottom right (sold : 51455€ - lot 143). These canvases, thanks to which he pays tribute to the feminine beauty but which can also address other themes as shown by the «Still life with a bouquet», oil on canvas signed on the bottom right (sold : 37020€ - lot 142). Indian ink «Portrait of Alfred de Musset» by Bernard Buffet (1928-1999) soared to 33260€ out of an estimate of 15/20000€ (lot 146).

This interesting selection of vintage and contemporary jewelry belonged to Rosita Díaz Gimeno, one of the great stars of Spanish cinema in the 1930s, and one of the first to have also succeeded in Hollywood, under contract with Fox Studios. All the works attracted a great deal of interest from international collectors, with all the estimates being largely exceeded.

After being arrested, imprisoned and almost shot during the beginning of the Spanish Civil War because she was the wife of the son of the President of the Republic Juan Negrin, Rosita was forced to flee abroad to save her life. A new stage began and she managed to pursue a great international career in film and theatre, working with the most renowned directors, including Jean Grémillon for example, alongside actors such as Maurice Chevalier.

A collection in line with the taste and know-how of the 40’s.
