Alexander Calder did not commercially sell the jewelry he created throughout his life; rather, he offered them as personal gifts to friends and acquaintances. Fewer than 1,700 pieces are known to exist worldwide.

The singularity of his jewelry lies as much in the modernist purity of their lines as in the technique he employed: no soldering, no joints — each piece originates from a single continuous wire, meticulously shaped by the artist to endow it with form and meaning.
