Hôtel Martinez Cannes

Since it was founded in 1989, Besch Cannes Auction has established itself as a major auctioneer in Cannes, combining prestige with accessibility. From December 27th to 31st 2024, Besch is organising an exceptional sale at the Hôtel Martinez, featuring 20th-century works of art, exceptional jewellery and a unique collection of several hundred bottles of Chartreuse.

Since 1989, Besch has established itself as a key player in Cannes auctions. Founded in a market dominated by Paris, Besch has capitalised on the attractiveness of the region to offer exceptional sales aligned with key tourist seasons. Its reputation is based on a dual ambition : to open up the art market to a wider audience of amateurs and professionals, without sacrificing the quality of the lots on offer. Today, Besch is one of the top twenty national auction houses, offering a unique expertise that attracts collectors from all over the world.

For five days, Besch Cannes Auction will be holding a prestigious sale at the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes, bringing together works of art from the 20th century (30/12), rare jewellery (31/12) and a unique collection of Chartreuses (27/12). This year-end event promises to captivate collectors and art lovers in search of exceptional pieces.

Chartreuses : a collection of more than 600 bottles

Collection de Chartreuses

In total, there will be 3 days of sales of Fine Wines and Spirits on December 27, 28 and 29, with one of the main attractions being the collection of Chartreuses, a liqueur produced by the Carthusian Fathers. This collection of over 650 bottles dating from 1903 to the present day includes rare bottles, jeroboams, magnums and mignonettes. Acquired by a long-time enthusiast, these bottles bear witness to a centuries-old tradition and are a priceless treasure for collectors and spirits lovers alike.

Art : the 20th century in the spotlight

Another highlight of the sale will be the major works by Poland's Jan Lebenstein and France's Raoul Dufy.

In the case of Jan Lebenstein, the unprecedented collection on offer includes works acquired directly from the artist that had never left the family circle until now. One of the highlights is ‘Longchamps, 1971’, a work that bears witness to the painter's fantastic world, populated by monstrous and mythological creatures. But beyond this one canvas, these works, coming with certificates of authenticity from the Zacheta Gallery (Warsaw), open a window onto the artist's fascinating world.

As for Raoul Dufy, ‘Fenêtre ouverte à Cannes, 1942’, a gouache and watercolour, represents the essence of the Côte d'Azur, with vibrant colours and simplified forms. This work comes from a lover of the artist and of Cannes.

A tribute to gastronomy at the Cannes Festival

Vaisselle de la Palme d'or

The sale will continue with a collection of unique tableware created each year by the gastronomic restaurant La Palme d'Or at the Hôtel Martinez. These pieces, inspired by the presidents of the Cannes Film Festival jury, were created for the festival's opening dinners and are a must for film and food lovers.

Treasures of jewellery art

Finally, the catalogue for these exceptional days also includes fine jewellery, reflecting the refinement of the great designers (such as those from Van Cleef & Arpels). Lots include rings, necklaces and bracelets adorned with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and other precious gems, offering a unique opportunity to acquire treasures of the jewellery art. The sale will focus on the elegance of the Art Deco and Retro years.

The lots will be on display from December 28 to 30 at the Hôtel Martinez, where visitors will be able to view the works and pieces. The auctions will also be accessible online via Interencheres and Drouot.
