The summer ends with a real success for Cannes Besch Auction. During its anniversary sale "30 years of passion and prestigious sales" on last August 15, the auction house made a series of exceptional results. One of them was particularly surprising : a "Circle" (2009) signed by the Italian Bruno Romeda (1993-1997). Estimated around 20000 euros, the sculpture in green patina bronze flew for 5 times this amount, reaching 100400 euros. The former owner acquired the work directly from the artist in 2015. Famous for his pieces with simple geometry and rigorous shapes, Bruno Romeda, internationally renowned sculptor, settled in the fifties in the town of Opio, in a provencal farmhouse open to artists and art lovers. Many museums now have works by the sculptor such as the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Kasama Nichido Museum of Art in Japan or the Museum of Contemporary Art in Nice...

Another major piece put on sale, "La Femme à la Harpe", an important panel carved in high relief in a block of wood and attributed to Ivan Mestrovic (1883-1962), was acquired for a sum of 50200 euros. Almost unknown in France, Rodin said of this artist of Croatian origin, of which he was the master, that he was "the greatest sculptor of all times", One will also quote a remarkable sculpture of the spouses Lalanne, François-Xavier (1927-2008) and Claude (1925-2019): a robust "Roman Hand" in bronze dated 1993 and who found taker for 35140 euros. For more than fifty years, this world-famous couple of artists has formed a united duo.

For the lovers of the couple, the Sotheby’s house will pay tribute to them on next October 24 at a sale entitled "L'Univers Lalanne", where works will be scattered from their residence-workshop near Fontainebleau.
