Hidden treasures of the Côte d'Azur : An exceptional auction reveals previously unseen private collections
The 37th International Easter Auction will be held from April 18 to 21, 2025 in the lounges of the renowned Hôtel Martinez in Cannes. This prestigious event will feature an exceptional selection of paintings, sculptures, fine wines and jewellery, mostly from private collections, some of which come from an emblematic château in the Cannes hinterland.
Artistic treasures and exceptional design
Among the highlights of these family collections, art lovers and collectors will be able to discover :
A rare and sought-after sculpture by François-Xavier Lalanne, entitled L'Oiseau Bleu (The Blue Bird), estimated at 180000/200000€.
An exceptional Art Deco statue by Egyptian sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar, ‘Au bord du Nil’, estimated at 80000/120000€.
Signed paintings, including a 1980 canvas by Hans Hartung estimated at 90000/110000, and a work by Robert Combas, ‘La petite fille à la tête de veau’, 1987 (former collection of the renowned Colombe d'or restaurant in St Paul de Vence) estimated at 50000/60000€.
An important oblong ceramic dish by Picasso, Madoura edition, ‘Tête de chèvre de profil, 1952’ estimated at 18000/22000€.
The event will also showcase a private collection from the 1980s and 1990s, featuring emblematic works of Italian and Scandinavian design, including pieces by Gio Ponti, including an exceptional pair of armchairs known as ‘Garzanti’ circa 1952, estimated at 40000/60000€, and a rare collection of lighting and poetic sculptures by designer Yonel Lebovici, including the famous and sought-after ‘Soucoupe’ lamp, estimated at 25000/30000€.
Great vintages and exceptional jewels
The sale will also include two exceptional days dedicated to fine wines, featuring prestigious private cellars. These include a fine collection of cases from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, covering several vintages, with estimates ranging from 15000€ to 50000€.
On the high jewellery side, several remarkable private jewel lots will be auctioned, including an exceptional half-set by Bulgari estimated at 40000/60000€, superb ear clips by Buccellati estimated at 6000/9000€, an elegant vintage ‘Tortue’ model watch by Cartier estimated at 10000/15000€ and a very fine collection of Chopard ‘Happy Diamond’ model jewellery in pink diamonds.
An auction under the banner of exception... and justice
As a prelude to the Easter Sunday art auction on April 20, an exceptional sale of confiscated goods, ordered at the request of AGRASC (Agence de gestion et de recouvrement des avoirs saisis et confisqués), will be held. Exceptional items will be auctioned, including the refined interior of a sumptuous residence on the Cannes coast and several prestigious cars.
These include a rare Steinway & Sons piano, model 0-180, black finish, estimated at 3000/5000€, a prestigious and important ‘Elysée’ menagère from the Puiforcat Paris Haute orfèvrerie classique collection, estimated at 12000/15000€, and an exceptional ‘Savonnerie’ carpet, estimated at 5000/10000€. Without forgetting the luxury cars with an AUDI R8 SPYDER V10 5.2 L estimated at 40000/50000€, a PORSCHE 911 T estimated at 55000/62000€ and a PORSCHE 993 estimated at 38000/43000€, and an elegant MERCEDES PAGODE 230 SL from 1964 estimated at 45000/55000€. The entire result sale will go to the State.
