For its Easter sale, Besch Cannes Auction, assisted by jewellery expert Edouard Degaro, is presenting a splendid collection of jewellery from Italian workshops highlighting age-old expertise combined with modern techniques.
Italian jewellery embodies elegance, innovation and craftsmanship.
For centuries, Italy has been the undisputed leader in the world of jewellery, with prestigious houses and talented craftsmen perpetuating a tradition of excellence.
The history of Italian jewellery dates back to ancient times, when the Etruscans and Romans already excelled in the art of goldsmithing. Thanks to advanced techniques and a keen eye for detail, these civilisations laid the foundations for a craft that still inspires modern designers today.
During the Renaissance, Italy became a centre for art and jewellery. Florence, Rome and Milan established themselves as capitals of fine jewellery. Famous Italian workshops were located in Tuscany and the Veneto region. Vicenza and Valenza, for example, are the heart of Italian jewellery manufacturing, as well as the world's leading producers of chains and bracelets.
Italy is home to some of the greatest luxury jewellery houses, including Bvlgari, Buccellati, Pomellato, Vhernier and Damiani.
The lots presented here are a fine example of this ‘Made in Italy’ synonymous with luxury, elegance and innovation.
