Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
« Roll Over Mouse (Toy Painting) »

As every year for the past fifteen years, the summer sales organised by Besch Cannes Auction from August 13 to 16 will take place in the prestigious Hôtel Martinez, a reference for luxury and excellence on the Croisette in Cannes. This 2022 edition will honour the most representative artists of some of the main artistic trends of the 20th century. And among them, it is worth mentioning Andy WARHOL (1928-1987) with notably two unpublished suites of four acrylics and silkscreen on canvas signed and dated "Andy Warhol 83" "Roll Over Mouse (Toy Painting)" and "Monkey (Toy Painting)" coming notably from the Beaubourg Gallery which has always supported and followed this internationally renowned artist.

Painter, music or video clip producer, author of cinematographic works... Andy WARHOL is rightly considered a complete artist. Prolific and innovative, he quickly joined the Pop Art movement (short for "popular art") which emerged in the 1950s and proposed serial works of art made from everyday objects. A cultural and artistic movement in which Warhol excelled to the point of being nicknamed "The Pope of the Pop". Notably known for his famous silk-screen prints - a technique he began to develop in the early 1960s - he reproduced, according to his inspiration, portraits of American stars (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley) as well as other lighter or more ironic subjects, but always in a range of colours that were out of sync with reality, as shown by these previously unpublished works "Roll Over Mouse (Toy Painting)" and "Monkey (Toy Painting)", which should arouse great interest among international art lovers and collectors.

Like the Beaubourg Gallery, the Maurice Garnier Gallery will give its unfailing support to Bernard BUFFET (1928-1999) who offers us here "a Torero" from 1987. A figurative painter, Bernard Buffet produced works with angular drawings and dark colours, perfect syntheses between modern pictorial forms and traditional subjects, as shown by this oil on canvas signed above. A certificate from the Galerie Maurice Garnier will be given to the buyer.

Tsuguharu FOUJITA (1886-1968) embodies a transition between East and West. Considered the master of the line, he is at the origin of the "nyuhakushoku" technique, the chalky white that catches the light and has contributed so much to his fame throughout the world. Witness this "Young woman with a veil, circa 1950", gouache, watercolour, Indian ink on paper covered with gold leaf, signed lower left. A certificate from Madame Sylvie Buisson will be given to the buyer.

In a resolutely different style, an oil on canvas, Etaples, marée basse by Eugène BOUDIN (1824-1898) will also be presented. Considered one of the greatest Norman painters and one of the precursors of Impressionism, Boudin interprets nature in compositions that are always admirably balanced, as illustrated by this canvas dated 1880.

Other painters and not the least, Armand GUILLAUMIN (1841-1927), Maximilien LUCE (1858-1941), Albert MARQUET (1875-1947), Roger GODCHAUX (1878-1958) after, Charles CAMOIN (1879-1965) or Louis CANE (born in 1943) will come to complete this set.

This event will be preceded, on Auguts Saturday 13 and Sunday 14, by a sale of prestigious wines and rare spirits, two days of sales of superb quality wines from very fine French private cellars (Expert Pascal Kuzniewski)
