This platinum ring holding a large Colombian emerald is a French creation. Along with diamonds, sapphires and rubies, emeralds are one of the four gemstones. The oldest known evidence of its extraction comes from Egypt. According to ancient texts, Cleopatra was fascinated by emeralds, which enhanced her beauty to such an extent that she became the queen of stones in her country. One of the most famous is the enormous Great Mogul emerald, measuring 10 cm in height, weighing 217 carats and engraved with religious inscriptions dating from the 16th century. Stone of the powerful people, it is also considered a symbol of love and passion. John Fitzgerald Kennedy had no hesitation in proposing with an emerald-set Toi et Moi ring.
