The influence of Cannes and its light. This is highlighted by the magnificent gouache entitled Fenêtre ouverte à Cannes, 1942, painted by Raoul Dufy, the real headliner of the auction organized from yesterday until December 31 at the Hôtel Martinez, by Besch Cannes Auction.
A gouache and watercolor that, through a view from the historic Grand Hôtel over the bay of Cannes and the Croisette, is represented in several planes, letting the viewer's gaze wander off into the distance.
Estimated at between 35000 and 40000 euros, this masterpiece has been on display at the Martinez since yesterday, and will go on sale on December 30.
In addition to Raoul Dufy, the famous Polish painter Jan Lebenstein, Lucien Levy-Dhurmer, the contemporary and multidisciplinary artist Philippe Shangti, Armand Guillaumin, Erro, Marie Mela Muter and César will be honored at this auction on the same day.
Raoul Dufy's Open Window in Cannes, 1942 will be auctioned on December 30.
A total of five prestige sales will punctuate the end-of-year period. These include auctions of some 2700 lots from private cellars in France and abroad, including 489 lots of yellow and green Chartreuses (jeroboams, magnums, bottles and half-bottles), as well as mignonettes and various objects associated with this elixir, which has been produced since 1903.
One of the final highlights will be a sale of diamonds, signed jewelry, haute joaillerie and prestige watches on December 31. This will include a diamond half-set of earrings and a long necklace by the André Vassort workshop.
